Home : SuperSmartHealth Vision : 2. You Define Your Vision for Optimal Health
As CEO, you define your vision of optimal health. The questions you ask, priorities you set and the choices you make in healthcare will be guided by this vision. In western or conventional medicine, this has traditionally been defined as the absence of disease. Subscribing to this definition means focusing on managing diseases and symptoms – clearly necessary – but is this what optimal health ultimately means to you?
As you contemplate and begin to define your vision of optimal health, you may find it helpful to consider other definitions. The American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine offers the following:
Optimal health is the conscious pursuit of the highest level of functioning and balance of the physical, environmental, mental, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of human experience, resulting in a dynamic state of being fully alive.
This creates a condition of well-being
regardless of the presence or absence of disease.
